Although documenting exhibitions, collecting invitation cards and catalogs of artists was part of the daily routine for the artist and curator Peter Stohrer, it is surprising that there are so few publications about his own work. Apparently, there was no occasion or time for a comprehensive publication. For the large 2017 solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Ahlen: “Farbräume”, he would certainly have published a catalog if life had allowed him time.

It is all the nicer that important companions have posthumously given a short interview, so that one can gain an impression of the artist personality Stohrer beyond the artistic creative phases. A special archive treasure is the video documentation “Atelier als Lebensraum” (1992), where one can directly participate in Stohrer’s way of thinking and working. The exhibition videos about the BeSt Kunstraum Kettwig and the Städtische Galerie Schloss Borbeck are a testimony to joint committed cultural work with other artists. They are, moreover, a part of the cultural history of Essen.
