Fette Beute – das dialogale Quartett
Fat booty – the dialogical quartet
Exhibition Description
Gunhild Söhn, who has been critically and ironically engaged with the art business for some time in her “Sammlung Gunhild Söhn”, had received an invitation from Burkhard Leismann, the then director of the Kunstmuseum Ahlen, to participate in an exhibition. The artist had the idea of realising a collaborative exhibition in which authorship would be suspended in favour of a changing and cross-fertilising dialogue between the works.
Peter Stohrer was immediately taken with the idea, and was joined by Anke Eilergerhard from Berlin and the photographer Andreas Komotzki from Wuppertal.
The quartet worked on the concept for two years – in the end, 10 rooms were loaded with 10 terms for which the artists gathered their works. The result is an extremely exciting and enjoyable tour, for which an ironic quartet card game was also developed. Under institutional conditions, such artistic-curatorial freedom was only possible because the museum director Burkhard Leismann, who has since sadly passed away, had the necessary passion for the experiment.
